Wednesday 6-9 pm
7 weeks long. Meets once a week ONLINE for 3 hours.
Students will be introduced to the business of fashion by understanding the legal composition of a corporation, how to prepare a business plan. They will be able to understand the structure of a fashion company and job description of each position, as well as tasks and responsibilities. Students will learn how to create a sellable collection, and most importantly, how to produce it–from sample to ordering fabrics, and selection of styles.
Students will walk through the whole process of how to market and sell a line wholesale or retail, and how to enter major industry trade shows.
After completion of the course, students will receive a resource guide for finding pattern makers, grading services, sample rooms, and factories all over Miami that work with start-up designers.
Please note that because of COVID-19, this course DOES NOT include a tour of Miami’s production companies to see the process of laying fabrics, cutting, sewing, and distribution in person.
